That’s right people, #vicbaticcal is up and running.

Let me start by saying that I have the best dad in the world. Ever. Whilst I might be a little biased, he certainly came through with the goods with a birthday present of a long weekend away for my mum and I in Singapore.

Like I said; Best. Dad. Ever.

Where we stayed: the Rendezvous Hotel Singapore, perfectly located on Bras Basah Road. Equal distance to Raffles and the Orchard Road shopping precinct = very dangerous.

Where we ate: it was impossible to visit and not stop in at the Long Bar at Raffles for a Singapore sling – it’s a family tradition. Then we crossed the road to the Chijmes and had a relaxed dinner at Giardino Pizzeria Bar & Grill. The cheap as chips lychee martinis didn’t hurt either. For a fun night out we went to Newton Food Centre to dine with the locals. Selected from an array of different stall holders we dined on chicken satay and fresh naan with lime and lychee juices over crushed ice.

What we did: took in the WTA tennis finals (which Cibulkova dominated) and shopped up a storm on Orchard Road.

Two standout activities were the just opened An Atlas of Mirrors exhibition for the Singapore Biennale and the Gardens by the Bay.

The take away messages from these experiences are that I like shiny things, am a sucker for a pretty flower and find cacti aesthetically pleasing…go figure.
